Last Day of the Term!

Wow we have had such a busy and fun-filled term in Pikopiko. We have created, performed, discovered, played, read, written and thought! We have also welcomed many new friends to our team throughout the term.
Today has been a great finish with some exciting things going on. First of all this morning we had another furry friend come to visit! Astra the samoyed came to see us in Pikopiko. We learnt how her breed was used for pulling sleds and herding reindeer. She is beautiful and fluffy and very friendly!

Yesterday during our plays we had one group who kept having actors going off to recorder lessons! So we had one final performance this morning. Well done to everyone in Jolly Roger and the Spyglass, great expression and confidence :)

Today was also the big day when we got up on the stage in front of the whole school in assembly. First we shared a few of our amazing bee artworks and some of the information we have learned. Then we all got up and did a fantastic rendition of our special poem 'The Sound Collector'. Well done to everyone, you have worked hard to learn the words and actions and did us proud!

We hope you all have a fabulous holiday. Safe travels if you are going away and have lots of fun with your families. See you next term!

Performing Plays in Pikopiko!

This week the Forest reading groups have been learning plays. They have spent time practising the words of their characters each day and trying to remember to use lots of expression and energy. Today the rest of Pikopiko were treated to a little afternoon performance where we got to see the actors in action. It was fabulous to see how everyone read their parts so confidently after a few days of rehearsing. Thank you so much Forest friends for sharing with us.

Please practice the words of 'The Sound Collector' tonight if you can. We will be sharing our poem and some Bee art works at our assembly tomorrow. We would love to see lots of families along if you can make it.

A Couple of Reminders

Everyone should have a little reminder notice in their bags today about a special end of term treat for tomorrow. The school baristas are putting on hot chocolates for us to celebrate all our great learning. If you would like to buy one, bring $2 tomorrow morning :) Lucky us!

Also a reminder that this Friday Pikopiko are performing in assembly. We will be doing our special poem 'The Sound Collector' and sharing a little of our learning about bees. We would love to see you there!

This Friday is also the last day of term 3. We will be finishing at 3pm as usual. We hope you're all planning lovely fun and relaxing holidays :)

Bee Pictures Revisited!

This afternoon we all got together to come back to our bee artwork. We used pencils, markers, pastels and dye to create drawings that were as accurate as possible. We made sure we noticed all the features of the bee, and practised giving each other feedback about things we'd done well and areas we could improve. It resulted in some amazing pictures! Everyone made a really big effort to pay close attention to all the details. Well done to the Pikopiko entomologists!

We have PMP tomorrow afternoon at 2.15pm so would appreciate any adults who are able to come along and help :) Thank you!

More Bees and Fire Safety

We had a doubly exciting day in Pikopiko today! To start off our week this morning, Brett came to show us how a beehive works. He had borrowed an empty one so he could show us what it looks like inside. He also got dressed up in his beekeeping suit to show us how he keeps safe. We saw where the bees build the honeycomb, how it gets removed, and how the bees get in and out. We also learnt that the queen bee has to stay in the bottom section laying eggs, and that the baby bees are in little sections of honeycomb until they get big enough to eat their way out! Thanks so much for coming Brett!

Then this afternoon we had some more exciting visitors! Charlie's dad Fireman Tim and some of the other firemen came with their big fire truck to teach us all about being Firewise. We got to hop up into the truck, and have a turn with the hose! Then we found out about having smoke alarms in our house and what to do if there is a fire. We shout, 'Fire, Fire, Fire!!' and then Get down, get low and get out!  We got to practice this under some pretend smoke at the end! We also saw what the firemen wear while they are fighting fires to keep them safe. Wow thank you firemen!

Pre-school Visitors and Cooking with Honey

Yesterday our friends from the pre-school came to visit which was very exciting as we hadn't seen them for awhile. The group of visitors included Arlo, Sam, Isaac and Indie who will all start with us next term. We did some counting activities and then moved off to explore lots of different maths stations. It was great to see Pikopiko and the pre-school connecting and enjoying learning together. We can't wait to see you all again after the holidays.

Bees and honey
Today Granny Maria (Mrs Fowler's Mum) popped into Pikopiko and took a group of children over to the staffroom to make rice bubble slice. One of the main ingredients is honey which makes it sweet and helps make the ricies bind together. We finished the day under the oak tree sampling the sticky treat.
