Library Visit

Firstly a big welcome to Seth who started in Pikopiko this morning! How exciting, it was great to have you join our team Seth :) We hope you enjoyed your first day!

It was a great day to start because we had a special treat this morning. We had some visitors from Christchurch City Libraries come to see us and tell us all some amazing stories. They had a story about mixing colours and one all about using our imagination! There was also a story at the end where some children got to go up the front and use some animal puppets. It was a fantastic wee show and we all had a great time.

Don't forget the cross country tomorrow at 2pm! Looks like the weather is going to be ok! Also on Friday we have Pink Shirt day so don't forget your best pink outfits :)

Publishing Stories

Today a group of Forest writers tried something different in writing time - they had a go at publishing their stories on the computer! They took a story they had written in their books and typed out the words. Then we printed them off and they drew a beautiful illustration to finish it off :) Well done you guys it was a bit tricky but you did really well!

This morning we also welcomed Tyson for his first visit - it was great to see you Tyson we hope you enjoyed your morning :)

Don't forget our cross country is now on this Thursday 21st at 2pm! See you there!

Cultural Festival Booklets

Firstly a huge congratulations to Friday's Tall Learners from Pikopiko. Well done to Ethan and Zack who received motivation awards for the amazing hard work they put in every day. Congratulations Sasha for your communication award - you have fantastic oral language skills and are a confident speaker in front of the team. Keep up the great work guys!

Today we welcomed Ava for her very first day in Pikopiko. How exciting to have you here with us full time now Ava! We hope you enjoyed your day :)

Later in the year HVS is taking part in the Cultural Festival which will involve all the children in Pikopiko. During our junior kapahaka every Friday we are learning the songs that we will be performing. Today we received a little booklet each to help us learn the words. These booklets will live in everyone's reading folder - please have a little practice and a sing every so often to help remember the words. So far we have only sung Purerehua and Me He Manurere. I will try to get some links on here soon so you know how the tune goes :)

Here we are decorating the front of our booklets this afternoon.

A Wet Thursday

Well we were all very disappointed to see the rain come down this morning! Unfortunately it didn't clear fast enough and we had to make the decision at lunchtime to postpone our cross country until next week. It will be next Thursday instead.

During the afternoon we did some great maths work instead. Well done everyone you certainly had your number brains switched on today! See if you can remember something you practiced today and try it at home with your family :)

At the end of the day we also welcomed Tyson who had his first meeting with Mr K today to welcome him to HVS :) It was great to see you today Tyson and we're looking forward to you coming for visits!

Don't forget tomorrow is a mufti day for Nepal. Bring a gold coin donation and also some money for a sausage ($2) and a juicy ($1) if you would like.

Oral Language Time

In the mornings in Pikopiko we spend some time talking to each other and sharing news from home or discussing questions and topics. This is good for our oral language skills and for getting to know people in our team. We organise ourselves in different ways each time. Sometimes we are in two big groups, sometimes we chat in pairs or small groups and sometimes we do our big class donut!

Today we got into groups of about 5 people. We had a little 'microphone' in each group for the person who was speaking, everyone else knew to be respectful and listen carefully. It was great to hear people doing wonderful sharing, especially some people saying they were excited about cross country tomorrow!

Don't forget parents and families are welcome to come and cheer us on in the cross country tomorrow. See you at 2pm!
