Tabloid Sports

We had a bit of a different Friday afternoon today as the senior leaders had organised a whole school Tabloid Sports event. We split into groups within our whanau teams and had a chance to rotate around all sorts of exciting activities. We tried things like a gumboot throw, skipping, a three-legged race, sack races, obstacle courses and a tug-o-war. It was great fun mixing with different children from across the school and getting to try some new games. Thanks to the parents that came along to watch and support!

Also, today we had our usual Friday morning sharing and a couple of Pikopiko boys had some particularly interesting items to show us. Check out the lemon - it was enormous! The dog created from recycled junk was a very clever design and was a great example of how one person's trash is another person's treasure. Thanks boys for your contribution.

Have a fabulous weekend Pikopiko! We'll look forward to seeing you all back next week ready for our Athletics on Wednesday :)

Kiwi Moon

This morning was super exciting as we headed off to the Isaac Theatre Royal to watch a production of Kiwi Moon. We hopped in our cars first thing to go into town. The theatre was very beautiful and very special! We were admiring the amazing chandelier and the incredible paintings on the ceiling.

We were excited for the show as soon as we got inside as we saw the stage all set up ready to go. Then the actors introduced themselves, the lights turned off and we were ready to start! The show was just amazing. They used puppets, props and lights to create a magical forest setting. There were also great songs and music throughout the show. Everybody had a great time!

Thank you so much to the adults who helped us out today, we couldn't have got there without you :)

Back at school, we started some art works based on our reflections of the performance. We used pastels on black paper to create a night time scene. We didn't quite have time to get them finished but they are looking fabulous so far.

Silverbeet Pie Day!

Today the Volcano children got busy with a garden to table project. We had noticed that our gardens had been doing lots of growing and saw that we had oodles of silverbeet. Just the thing for a silverbeet and feta cheese pie thought one of the teachers.

We all headed out into the blustery morning to work out which plant was the silverbeet. Seth was able to point this out to us so then we all set about choosing two fabulous looking leaves to go into the pie. We stripped the leaves from the stalks, mixed up eggs and chunks of feta and placed this between buttered sheets of file pastry. Thanks to Sam and Swade for their help with preparing the filo. Into the oven went the pie and we set about writing our stories.

Later in the day the warm pie was ready to eat and everybody was brave enough to try it, even if it was just a lick! Some people enjoyed it so much they even had two pieces and we sent the rest over to the office for Mr Lewis and Mr K to try and after that there wasn't much left!

Great team work Volcano children ... I wonder what we can harvest next and make some tasty food with. I did spy some kale that would make some delicious kale chips. Any parents who would like to help with some garden to table projects, please let me know - it's not possible without your help. Thanks very much to those parents who took part today.

Reminders, Reminders!

The incredibly busy time of the year has arrived and there are lots of happenings to be aware of ...

This Thursday we are off to the Kiwi Moon show at the Isaac Theatre Royal. We will be leaving school at 9.15am and will talk to parents who have offered transport tomorrow to confirm that we need your assistance on the day. We return to school around 11.30am that morning. Thanks very much for all the offers of help we have had.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we will be hoping to get outside in the afternoon for another athletics practice so we will not run our usual PMP programme.

Finally, hopefully you have discovered a notice in your child's reading folder about how we would like them all to have a white t-shirt at school before next Wednesday 25 November. We are going to tie dye them in green, blue and orange colours for Forest, Ocean and Volcano and will be proudly wearing them at our end of year celebration.

Marvellous Granny Maria

In Pikopiko we love having parents and grandparents along to help with our learning. We are very fortunate to have Granny Maria (Mrs Fowler's Mum) along every week to support the Volcano children with their literacy. Today it was a wet day so we had inside lunch and Granny Maria read stories while the children snacked from their lunchboxes. If there are any other grandparents out there who have some free time, we would love to have you come in to read and play games with our team.
