Pet Day

We had an amazing morning in the juniors today :) We had invited everyone to bring along their pet to school for our pet morning. We had a fantastic variety of animals show up at school! Hens, guinea pigs, rabbits, puppies, kittens, cats, dogs, and even worms and a caterpillar. Lots of children also brought a photo of their pet or their favourite toy. It was lots of fun meeting all the animals and getting to know a little about them. Thank you to everyone who brought a pet to share and thanks so much for the adults who came along. What a fun event!

Disco Day!

Pikopiko have been so looking forward to their disco and the day finally arrived today! We all got to come in mufti in the morning so it was very exciting right from the start of the day :) Everyone had an awesome time dancing and playing games like Spin the Bottle and Dance Off. The seniors did a great job running it for us - thank you to them and Mrs Haddock for all the organisation!

Next week we are going to be working on lots of Christmas activities and crafts and we would love to have a few parent helpers along. If you are keen to take a station next week please come and chat to a teacher. We will be running activities Monday-Thursday in the middle block 11-12.30.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Open morning, T-shirts...and Donkeys!

We had a very busy and exciting day in Pikopiko today. First off this morning we had a special session to welcome some of our new friends who will be joining us on the first day of next year. They came along to visit Pikopiko and try some activities and meet some of their classmates. They all did some lovely craft and had a fun time together. Thanks for coming we loved getting to know you all and will see you again next Thursday!

The bigger kids got to have a fun morning as well, they all joined up with Kowhai and did some outdoor stations and had a great time. There was the parachute, some skipping ropes, balls and frisbees.

After lunch we had a very exciting surprise! As part of our warm up to Pet Day next Tuesday we had some special visitors. Margaret and Jan from the Canterbury Donkey Rehoming Centre brought down two lovely donkeys Tam and Periwinkle to visit the junior children. They were very cute and friendly! We learnt that they like to eat hay and straw, they need company to be happy and they love children :) We got to have a pat and it was great to learn more about these gorgeous creatures. Thank you so much for the visit!

Also this afternoon we had the very exciting job of undoing our tie dyed shirts...and they worked brilliantly! It was awesome to see the amazing patterns that have turned out and the colours look fantastic.

Finally we had a chance to share in a yummy treat at the end of the day as we celebrated our friend Zara's birthday and first day in Pikopiko :) It is great to have you join us Zara, thank you for the cake!

What a day! Don't forget our disco tomorrow, see the post below :)

Disco Reminder

We had a very exciting day in Pikopiko with lots going on. Just having a few problems with photos so will try and update a little later on. However in the meantime we have a very important reminder about tomorrow's disco! The junior school have their disco on in school time tomorrow from 2.15-3pm. Here are the things to remember:

  • You may come in mufti and stay in your mufti clothes all day
  • You need to bring a gold coin donation
  • You may also bring a little extra money to buy popcorn ($1) chips ($1) and glowsticks (50c)
Like last time, the junior children will order their treats first thing in the morning (they will not be able to purchase at the disco). There will be a list in Pikopiko tomorrow.

Look forward to seeing you in your dancing clothes!

Tie Dye Day!

Well this afternoon was the moment we've been waiting for! Time to get stuck in and dye our white t-shirts! We learnt how to use rubber bands to gather little 'bunny ears'  in the fabric. We each put about 8 bands in our shirts. Then we got to dunk the shirts into the dye! We had a bucket of green for the Forest, bluey purple for the Ocean and orange for the Volcano. Some of us had a go at stirring the shirts and making sure they were nice and soaked in the dye. We can't wait to see what they look like when we take the bands out, there were lots of great predictions!

Thank you so much to Amy for her help organising the afternoon, and to all the adults who came along and helped the children put the rubber bands on. We couldn't have run the activity without you so we are very appreciative!
