Welcome back everybody for Term 2! It was great to see you all this morning and to hear all about your exciting holidays. A special welcome to Taylor and William our two new friends in Pikopiko, we hope you enjoyed your first day!
We had a special start to the day with our Powhiri where we welcomed our new families to the school. Well done everybody for your wonderful participation.
This afternoon we started learning about shapes in maths time. We had some fun on the smartboard with a game trying to guess the hidden shape! If you would like to try this game at home you can go to ictgames.com, click on Numeracy, then Shapes and Measures then it is the first one 'Shifting Shapes'. We also got out the wooden shapes to describe circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. Great work Pikopiko!

Happy Easter!
Wow what a fun and busy last day we had! We started the day with our special end of term hot chocolates. Yum!
Then in the sun we had a special outdoor Jump Jam :)
During Wa Whanau time we had the Haka Hullaballoo! It was a competition to see which whanau group did the best haka. Congratulations Truscott who won the Golden Tiki this time :) We also performed Purerehua which we have been practising in Junior Kapahaka.
This afternoon lots of senior students from Kahikatea came to run activities during our Discovery time. We had so much fun.
We hope you all have a fabulous holiday! Have heaps of fun and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 2 :)

Harold in the Life Education Van
We all got to go to Harold today! The Ocean readers had their two sessions and the Forest readers got to go back for the second time. We learnt about what makes a healthy balanced diet. We can choose go go go foods, slow foods, or stop foods! We also know we need food, water and oxygen for ENERGY! :) Everyone got to go to Harold's friend Jocko's birthday party as well.
We all got a special booklet to take home with some activities about what we did today. We started the booklets in class this afternoon, you can finish these at home :)
Tomorrow is the last day of term! It will be like a Friday so remember your library books. You can also bring $2 to buy a special end of term hot chocolate if you like :)

Harold, Easter + Pumpkins!
Harold has been parked at school since last week and we have all been very excited about getting our turn to go and see him. Today the Forest readers got to go for their first session! It was a lot of fun and very exciting. We learnt all about healthy foods. I have some photos but I'll save them up for tomorrow so we don't ruin the surprise for the Ocean readers! Tomorrow the Forest readers will get their second session, and the Ocean readers will get to go twice!
Easter fun continued today as well. We made some cute little Easter baskets shaped like a rabbit - they even have a fluffy tail! We have left them at school... if we're lucky the Easter Bunny might just pay a visit later in the week.... :)
Finally I have some community news about pumpkins!
Remember when we went to see the giant King Pumpkin down at the community garden? There is going to be a pumpkin competition on at the garden at 4pm on Sunday April 12th. There are a few exciting things going on for this! There will be a colouring competition - keep your eyes out for this as we'll try send them out through school in the next couple of days. Also there will be a carving competition. If you would like to try a pumpkin carving there will be pumpkins available at the garden from next Tuesday for you to take home, carve, then bring back on the 12th for judging at the competition. It would be awesome to have lots of Pikopiko families involved :)
