Our student led conferences are in full swing - thank you so much to those that came along tonight. It was great to see the Pikopiko children sharing their learning with their families and to have a chance to report back on the fantastic progress you are all making.
It means the teachers don't have a lot of time for blog posts! But we just wanted to firstly remind anyone that hasn't had a conference that there are still slots tomorrow and we'd love to have you along so that your child can share what they have been doing.
Secondly, we are hoping to get started on our tie-dyed t-shirts this Wednesday afternoon! We would love some parent helpers for this and hoped this might be a good time slot as we've had such great help with PMP :) If you are free on Wednesday afternoon from about 1.30 onwards we would love a few extra pairs of hands.
Thank you!

Spit Roast Whanau Lunch
Today the whole school was treated to a fabulous spit roast lunch. Brett came over to Pikopiko to invite us to see the pork being cooked over the hot charcoals. He got the fire going at 5.30am this morning and along with a group of helpers, worked very hard to get our lunch ready. We all joined up with our older buddies in our whanau groups, participated in karakia and then lined up patiently waiting to get our bun. You could choose to have lettuce and sauces as well. It was a great idea and it was awesome to see so many Pikopiko friends enjoying their bun and chatting with their buddy.
Junior Athletics
Wow what an amazing day we had for our athletics! After so much rainy cold weather recently it was quite a change to have such a beautiful HOT day! We had a lovely morning rotating around each of our 4 events before getting together at 12 for the very competitive sprints! Everyone was involved in shotput, frisbee throw, high jump and long jump. As teachers we only get to see our one event so I know that everyone at the shotput put in an amazing effort and some people even surprised themselves! I have heard that every other station was the same and it was so wonderful to see everyone involved and having a great time. Thank you too for the wonderful turn out of parents we had to support the day, the children loved having you all along :)

Athletics Tomorrow!
Just a reminder that tomorrow is our Junior Athletics Day! Everyone has been practising hard and we're all looking forward to the real thing. We will kick off at 9.30am and run two events before morning tea, then another two events from 11-12 before finishing with the sprints from 12-12.30. We will hold a prizegiving ceremony at the end of the day at 2.30pm.
The coffee cart will be running and we'd love to see you all there to cheer us on! See you then!

Tabloid Sports
We had a bit of a different Friday afternoon today as the senior leaders had organised a whole school Tabloid Sports event. We split into groups within our whanau teams and had a chance to rotate around all sorts of exciting activities. We tried things like a gumboot throw, skipping, a three-legged race, sack races, obstacle courses and a tug-o-war. It was great fun mixing with different children from across the school and getting to try some new games. Thanks to the parents that came along to watch and support!
Also, today we had our usual Friday morning sharing and a couple of Pikopiko boys had some particularly interesting items to show us. Check out the lemon - it was enormous! The dog created from recycled junk was a very clever design and was a great example of how one person's trash is another person's treasure. Thanks boys for your contribution.
Have a fabulous weekend Pikopiko! We'll look forward to seeing you all back next week ready for our Athletics on Wednesday :)
