Grapes, Grapes, Grapes!

As part of our letter 'Gg' focus and the 'gr' blend, all the Pikopiko children tasted some
green grapes today. We brainstormed some words like juicy, squishy, seeds, skin, tough, firm and lots more.

We had a go at some descriptive writing about the look and taste of the grapes. It was exciting to see
all the fantastic words you had a go at using. The Forest children wrote some poems ... read a couple
below and feel free to pop in the morning and ask your child to share their work with you.

Please note there will be no PMP tomorrow as we have a scheduled athletics practice with Kowhai :)

Fabulous Fun at the Gala!

Last night our HVS gala was a wonderful community get together to raise money for our new school pool. There were lots of stalls, yummy food and exciting entertainment happening for everyone to enjoy. The junior Kapahaka started the evening off with a short performance of some of our favourite waiata - great job there team. It was lovely to catch up with lots of our Pikopiko families and see all the children having such a happy night. It was impressive to discover what a great shot so many of our younger students are ... Tim who was organising the dunk tank commented that I might not even get wet during my stint. This did not prove to be the case! William T was the first to make me go under and there wasn't much let up after that!! Thank you for coming along to be part of the action. It will be exciting to find out how much money we have raised.

D for Donuts!

We all had a very d-d-delicious treat in Pikopiko today! We were super lucky to have Archie's mum Mia come along and help out in the Volcano today. They have been learning all about the letter 'd' so Mia had a wee station making donuts! Yum!! She had four wonderful helpers who got to mix up the ingredients, then they were cooked in a special donut maker. How spoilt are we! Thank you so much Mia for all your help today :)

How exciting tomorrow is the big day of the HVS Gala! We are all looking forward to coming along. Thank you to all the adults who are helping out. Don't forget Pikopiko that you are performing as part of Junior Kapahaka. We will be on at 5pm and you can just wear your normal clothes :) See you there!

Preschool Visit

With our busy schedules and the school holidays it has been a little while since our preschool friends have come to visit! So it was extra special and exciting to see them here this morning. They spent some time with the Volcano who have been learning all about the letter Dd this week. Our visitors got crafty and created some wonderful Dotty Dinosaurs. Great work guys, they look awesome!
Just before morning tea we all got together as a full Pikopiko team so that we had a chance to properly welcome and meet the new preschoolers. We enjoyed singing one of our favourite songs, The Animal Boogie.
Thanks so much for coming preschool friends, we always love having you in Pikopiko!

More Athletics Practice and Awesome Alphabet learning

This afternoon we got outside for some more athletics practice. It's fantastic to see how keen you all are to try the different events and learn some new skills. You are already showing improvement - keep up the great focus. Check out these action shots of some of our team. Also a reminder that tomorrow we will be doing PMP at 2.15pm in the hall and any parent help would be very much appreciated.

Yesterday two Pikopiko friends worked hard to complete a big alphabet challenge. They matched all the lower case and capital letters to the correct picture. It took quite a long time but you both demonstrated real perseverance to see the task completed. Nice job!

Athletics Practices Begin!

Now that all the big kids are finished with their Athletics day it is our turn to start preparing for ours. The Junior Athletics will be held in week 7 on Wednesday November 25th. In the meantime we will be holding practices in the afternoons to learn all the skills for the various events. Today we had our first wee try of three stations - the long jump, shotput and sprints. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon so it was lovely to get outside!

We discussed with the children about wearing suitable shoes for the next few weeks while we are doing our training. Please come in your trainers every day ready to run around! We also reminded them that jandals are not allowed at all at school.

We'd also like to do a first call out in preparation for our Christmas concert. We would like to make some tie dyed t-shirts in our Forest, Ocean and Volcano colours and wear them during our performance. For this we will require one plain white t-shirt for each child. Some time in the next couple of weeks could you please send a named t-shirt for your child. We suggest the $3 clothing shop in Ferrymead, The Warehouse or Kmart. Thank you!
