Go Noodle!

Today after lunch we tried out a brand new online resource called Go Noodle. We set up our profile and chose our wee character - a cute little blue monster called Freckles Sinclair! The site has a huge variety of 'brain break' movement activities, from kids zumba, to dance instruction, to yoga. Today we tried a few different things, having a bit of a dance and learning the 'super scooper' yoga move. We look forward to checking in with Freckles regularly and getting our bodies moving!

We hope you are ready and excited for our trip to Quail Island tomorrow! Remember your hat, a nice big lunch and drink and to have some sunscreen on - it is supposed to be lovely and warm :) Make sure you can manage your bag ok - you need to be able to carry it all the way around the island!

Performance Videos!

We had a great Friday in Pikopiko today. Fun with our buddies, dancing at Jump Jam and learning new songs at Kapahaka. This afternoon we had a Junior Assembly; congratulations to Josh, Amalia, Peri and Ariana who received certificates for their wonderful presentations of their projects yesterday. Well done guys :)

As promised, below are the videos of our performances yesterday. The first was our Hello Song, then our awesome Volcano Song that we have been practising for the last couple of weeks. Well done to everyone for their fantastic singing.

Please remember to bring your new Quail Island notice back on Monday so we are all ready to go for Tuesday. Also if you are a ukulele player remember your ukulele on Monday!

Have a great weekend :)

Volcano Inquiry

Today was the big day! All of Pikopiko and Kowhai came to school this morning with their absolutely amazing volcano projects. We had a great variety of models and posters about volcanoes from all over the world. In Pikopiko we shared our projects within the team this morning and the children did a fabulous job of sharing the facts they had learnt. Here are a few of the children with their projects, we will have some more photos on the walls in class :)

Then this afternoon we had our celebration! Thank you so much to all the friends and families that came along to watch and share in our learning. We started in the hall and sang our Hello Song, then our wonderful Volcano Song. Keep an eye on the blog as in the next few days I will upload a video of our performance.
All our families were then invited back to our rooms to see our projects. Well done to Kowhai as well for their awesome effort. A few of the volcanoes were designed to erupt so we brought them outside to watch the lava come out!

Thank you so much to everybody that came along. We had a great time :)

There is a notice in everyone's bag today confirming our new Quail Island date as next Tuesday March 24th. Please send back the new permission form asap so that we can confirm numbers.

This also means that ukulele lessons will be rescheduled - Chris is able to run the lessons on Monday morning instead so ukulele children please bring your instruments on Monday :)

Pizza!

Our shared book this week in Pikopiko is called The Royal Dinner, and is all about the cook making a pizza to please all the members of the Royal Family. Inspired by this story, we decided to make our own! We used the same ingredients as the book: ham, cheese, tomato and onion with sauce on a pizza base. Yum!

Reading Rotations

We ran reading a little differently in the Pikopiko team today. We had stations set up in the Ocean end and the Forest end and all the reading groups did a rotation around the different activities. Ka pai to all the children for doing fabulous work with their groups, it was awesome to see.

Please note that unfortunately we have had to postpone our trip to Quail Island tomorrow due to the bad weather. We are hoping to go next Tuesday instead and will let you all know as soon as we confirm this date with the ferry company. We'd love all the parents to still come along, please let us know whether you are still able to come and help.

Q is for Quilt

This week in Pikopiko our focus is the letter q. We are thinking of words like queen, quack, quick and Quail Island!

Our activity today was to work together to make a quilt. We made a square each which we will put together into one big square! We drew a queen bee then dyed our square.

Here was Mrs Wilson's example to start us off:

Then we all worked hard with our crayons and then painting on the dye. Great work guys!
