Gymnastics!
Well today was the big day and what a good time we had! Everyone had so much fun balancing, jumping, flipping, swinging and rolling. The foam pit was a big hit and so was the trampoline! Well done everyone for getting so involved and trying lots of new things. Thanks so much to all the adults who came along and helped us out with transport - we really appreciate it!

More bees and Gymnastics tomorrow!
We did some more bee investigations this afternoon and found out a bit about their life cycle. We know now that they go from an egg, to a larva, to a pupa, then finally an adult bee. We watched this interesting video today to continue our research:
Then we continued with our wonderful scientific line drawings of bees. We made sure we had all the important parts of the bee, then used a marker to go over our lines. Looking good!
Tomorrow is our big trip to the Christchurch School of Gymnastics! We're all very excited. We suggested to the children today that they just wear a school shirt with comfortable shorts or trackpants. Thanks so much to the adults who have offered to come along - if you could arrive just before 10.30 that would be fantastic. We will leave the gym again at 12.30 to be back here by about 1pm. See you then!
Please note also that because of our gym trip we won't have PMP tomorrow afternoon :)

Bee Awareness Month and Keep NZ Beautiful Week
We have two important events happening at the moment. All of September is Bee Awareness Month. Bees are very precious and do a very important job collecting pollen and taking it to other plants, like fruit and vegetables that we eat. They also make the delicious honey that we enjoy. As part of Bee Awareness Month we are learning all about bees and what makes them so special.
Today we watched this little movie to introduce us to bees:
We had a chat about the facts we had learnt from the video:
Then we used a reference picture to do our own line drawings of honey bees. We had to make sure we had four wings and six legs, a head, thorax and abdomen. Great, careful work Pikopiko!
The other important event is Keep NZ Beautiful week that started today. There will be lots of fun activities happening around the school. Today everyone took home a special competition puzzle sheet to complete at home. If you bring this back to the box in the library before Friday you will be in the draw!
