Discovery Fun

We had a busy, fun Friday in Pikopiko today :) It is always great doing all our activities like kapahaka, jump jam and library. It was our school assembly today as well, so a huge congratulations to this week's Tall Learners. Well done Amie for your communication certificate, you are a fantastic confident speaker even in front of a big group. Great work Connie and Gabrielle for your motivation certificates, you have both been working really hard recently and putting in your best effort. Keep it up guys!

This afternoon we had discovery with lots of fun things happening. We made some paper snowflakes with winter on the way this weekend. There was also building and dress ups - we even had a minecraft character walking around!

Enjoy the long weekend everybody! See you all on Tuesday :)

Commenting from Apple devices

A number of people have come to me saying they are unable to comment from an iPad or iPhone. I have done some experimenting and reading about this and it turns out it is a known problem with Blogger and iOS that is not able to be fixed anytime soon.
So, I have found two options to get around this:
  1. Sign in with a Google account. It seems that if you choose to be logged into a google account and comment under that account (rather than as anonymous) it will work as usual.
  2. Use the Google Chrome browser. If you would prefer to continue to comment as an anonymous user try downloading the Google Chrome app and using that to view the blog instead of Safari.
Both these options worked for me so I hope that solves any issues people might be having. Please come and see me if you need any further help :) This information has also been added to the 'Blog Info' link at the top of the page if you need to find it later. Thanks so much to all the people who have been reading and leaving comments, we love reading them every morning!

K is for Kite

K is our letter this week in the Pikopiko team! We have thought of words like kangaroo, kitten, king and koala. We also thought of the other teams at HVS - Kahikatea, Kowhai and Kauri!
Today for K we each made our own kite. We attached a piece of string to fly it with and gave it a long floaty tail. This afternoon we took them out for a test flight in the wind! They looked great!

Number Work

There is lots of great maths thinking going on in Pikopiko at the moment. We have small maths groups in the afternoons and do lots of counting, reading and writing numbers, addition problems and maths games. We have to think quickly to figure out numbers that come before or after, and count forwards AND backwards! What super clever mathematicians!

Have you filled a bucket today?

Last week Constable Meg came back to see us she read us the story 'Have You Filled a Bucket Today'. It is all about being kind to others to fill their invisible bucket of happiness! This afternoon to follow up on this we brainstormed ideas about how to fill each other's buckets. We thought of things like using manners, smiling at people, helping friends out and using nice words. Then we each had our own bucket to decorate and write some ideas on. Great thinking Pikopiko! Let's all work hard on being awesome bucket fillers every day :)
