More Bees and Fire Safety

We had a doubly exciting day in Pikopiko today! To start off our week this morning, Brett came to show us how a beehive works. He had borrowed an empty one so he could show us what it looks like inside. He also got dressed up in his beekeeping suit to show us how he keeps safe. We saw where the bees build the honeycomb, how it gets removed, and how the bees get in and out. We also learnt that the queen bee has to stay in the bottom section laying eggs, and that the baby bees are in little sections of honeycomb until they get big enough to eat their way out! Thanks so much for coming Brett!

Then this afternoon we had some more exciting visitors! Charlie's dad Fireman Tim and some of the other firemen came with their big fire truck to teach us all about being Firewise. We got to hop up into the truck, and have a turn with the hose! Then we found out about having smoke alarms in our house and what to do if there is a fire. We shout, 'Fire, Fire, Fire!!' and then Get down, get low and get out!  We got to practice this under some pretend smoke at the end! We also saw what the firemen wear while they are fighting fires to keep them safe. Wow thank you firemen!
